Translation coverage: help
Translation coverage checks your store's translations and lists what is missing, out of date, left in the original language, or missing a name from your glossary. It reads translations and never changes them.
Getting started
Install the app and open it from your Shopify admin. The first check starts by itself and takes from a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on how much content your store has. After that the app checks again whenever you open it and the last check is more than a day old, or when you press Check now.
Your store needs at least one published language besides its main one. Add languages inSettings > Languages in your Shopify admin and publish them.
What is checked
Products, product options and option values, collections, image alt text, metaobjects, pages, blogs and blog posts, menus and menu items, filters, your store's SEO title and description, and your policies. Theme text (buttons, section headings) is not checked: Translate & Adapt shows it section by section already.
Up to 5,000 items of each kind are checked per language; the app says when a kind has more.
What the problems mean
- Missing
- There is no translation for that field, so shoppers in that language see your original text.
- Out of date
- You changed the original text after it was translated. Shopify marks these, and the translation may no longer match.
- Same as the original
- A translation exists but is word for word the original text: often an automatic translation that didn't run. Short codes such as sizes and units are not flagged, and neither is a field that is wholly a glossary term.
- Glossary term changed
- The original holds a name from your glossary, and the translation doesn't have it with the same spelling and capitals.
How do I fix a problem?
The app doesn't write translations, so it works with whichever translation app you use. Click an item's name to open it in your admin, then use Localize (Translate & Adapt) or your translation app. To hand the list to a translator, use Download CSV; filter it first to send only one kind of problem. PressCheck now when you're done to see the result.
The glossary
Add one name per line: your brand, product lines, ingredients, anything that must not be translated. Use the capitals you use on your store. Up to 200 names. The next check uses them.
Plans and billing
The overview of each language is free. A plan adds the full list of items to fix, the links to your admin, the CSV export and the glossary. Shopify handles the plans, the free trial and the billing: you can change or cancel your plan in your Shopify admin under Settings > Apps, and uninstalling the app cancels it.
Something doesn't look right
- The check says it didn't finish. Press Check now. A check can be cut off when the app is updated.
- A translation shows as missing but I can see it on my store. It may be a translation for one market only. The app counts translations that apply to all markets.
- A language is missing from the list. Only published languages are checked.
